The Story

This audio walk has been created by Mona Hareesh, a student of Queen's University Belfast. When I came to Belfast in September 2023 for my master’s at Queen’s , listening to traditional Irish music at a cosy pub was on top of my bucket list. But halfway through the university, I couldn’t do it. This audio walk made me push my social anxieties and made myself explore the social gatherings of the pubs in Belfast where the long history of Ireland rests. The aim of this audio walk is to take you on a journey through some of the city's oldest and most iconic pubs, each with its unique story and character. Its objective is to provide you with an engaging experience, bringing to life the history and cultural significance of these establishments along with the immersive music from each pubs.  As you walk with me, get transported back in time, sharing tales of famous patrons, rebellions, bombs and barricades and the fascinating evolution of Belfast's pub culture. I hope to inspire a deeper appreciation of these cherished institutions and to showcase the rich heritage of this vibrant city through its favourite’s spots, the pubs.

    TARGET BROADCASTER

The prospective broadcaster, publisher, or platform for this audio tour may be a local tourism  board or a website dedicated to promoting Belfast's rich cultural history. The initiative is in line with their objectives of displaying Belfast's historic pubs and encouraging tourism while emphasising the city's distinctive heritage. It also appeals to a broad demographic, including history buffs and pub-goers looking for a distinctive experience. The addition of several pubs increases the project's depth and diversity, and the use of audio technology makes it an accessible and engaging method for visitors to learn about the history of the city. Overall, this initiative has the potential to be an excellent addition to any platform aiming to highlight Belfast's rich cultural scene.
